SYDISE

Hellenic Association of Conference Interpreters

The Hellenic Association of Conference Interpreters (SYDISE) is an association of professional interpreters who specialize in conference interpreting (simultaneous, consecutive and whispered interpreting). Members participate as independent interpreters -freelance professionals- who must meet objective admission requirements. All members must comply with social security and taxation obligations. The Association aims to provide collective representation to support and protect the interests of its members, as well as supply clients with practical information in order to promote a better understanding of the sector. SYDISE’s actions are guided by respect for the work of conference interpreters and its commitment to high standards in cooperation with other Greek and international associations and organisations in the industry sector.

In 2017 SYDISE joined the International Federation of Translators (IFT-FIT), an international grouping of translators, interpreters and terminologists, to which over 100 professional associations and training institutes are affiliated, representing more than 80,000 translators in 55 countries.

Who We Are

The members of SYDISE are also active as legal interpreters offering their professional services to notaries, lawyers and the Greek and foreign courts of law.

In 2020 SYDISE joined EULITA, the European Legal Interpreters and Translators Association, a non-profit association, established under the Criminal Justice Programme of the EU Commission’s Directorate-General of Freedom, Security and Justice (project number JLS/2007/JPEN/249). EULITA is committed to promoting the quality of justice, ensuring access to justice across languages and cultures and thus, ultimately, guaranteeing the fundamental principles of human rights as enshrined in the European Convention of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms.
